New Room: Trading the Hawkeye Method

The key to successful trading is understanding volatility. We all have seen wide price spreads in indices, equities, and forex markets just prior to or right after news events. However, this visual interpretation only captures one instance of a few bars that represent market volatility. Any individual that has intraday screen time experience understands that the majority of a day can have large fast price swings in both directions. Any individual that doubts this statement can look at any of the major three indices during the fall and winter of 2009 and witness for themselves market volatility.

These wide price swings can spell doom for a short term investor whom is trying to price themselves into the market. As Nigel Hawkes has said, "The key to trading is to smooth out volatility." Our jobs as traders is to identify volatility and learn how to smooth out the charts in order to decrease churning and increase profits. In this trading room I will be teaching how to accomplish this in the indices, spot forex, currency futures, commodities and equities markets with intraday, swing and position trading styles. These techniques have been taught to me by Nigel Hawkes, the creator of Hawkeye ChartTools, and I look forward to passing his information on to you. This includes demonstrations of Hawkeye ChartTools and their different uses and applications as Nigel Hawkes uses them.

5400 Tick Chart

The above 5400 tick chart is much smoother than the below 3 minute chart. The three minute chart on 2/29/10 has a lot of trend changes and therefore, creates more areas where decisions have to be made. In contrast, the 5400 chart has fewer trend changes and demonstrates a great example of smoothing out volatility.

3 Minute Chart

Transparency is one of the most important aspects of any trading room.  Therefore, all entries, exits and stop management will be conducted through a trading simulator.  All trades are going to be for educational purposes only and will be displayed on the screen for the duration of the trade.  The reason for these steps is for compliance within the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and National Futures Associate (NFA) rules and regulations and to show current performance of the techniques used by the room's host.  I look forward to seeing you in the Hawkeye Trading Room. Why wait, register now!
